When we heard Jeanne and Michalis were going to have their wedding in Crete at a vineyard just outside Chania we were thrilled! We love working at this cozy outdoor location. Romantic and private, the venue of Dourakis Winery is tucked away in the hills about an hour’s drive from Chania. Stone buildings, an ancient wine cellar and lush green gardens make this a perfect spot to tie the knot!
Jeanne and Michalis were such a fun couple to work with and their zest for life and their smiles were not lost in translation as we knew from the start we were going to have a great time working with them as their wedding photographers!
The Greek-American couple living in Athens, decided to have their wedding in Crete after falling in love with the beauty and charm of the island. After visiting the vineyard and seeing its rustic beauty they knew they wanted to host their event there. Friends and family came from as far as the United States and Africa to celebrate the lovely couple!
We let the vineyard grounds be our guide when deciding how to style and document this wedding. Working with the rich palette of greens provided by mother nature and taking cues from the rustic stone buildings. The result? A super calm earthy vibe from the lush greenery contrasted with elegant polished decor.
The ceremony was held on the spacious verdant lawn just next to the main house. Rows of white chairs awaited the colorful group. The couple, exquisitely dressed for their big day (him: three piece suit complete with pocket watch, her: a romantic designer wedding dress), met under the hanging leaves of the grapevines to exchange their vows. It was a beautiful, intimate and loving ceremony performed in two languages for the international guest list.
A heavenly dessert table was set up and styled with towering trays of macaroons, glass vases brimming with chocolates, and dishes filled with Greek pastries dripping in honey, all that taken care of fabulously by Moments Weddings & Events! Fairy lights sparkled from the ground up illuminating this decadent focal point.
After loads of touching speeches and toasts to the newlyweds it was time to burn up the dancefloor! This was everything you would imagine a Greek American wedding in Crete to be. Plate smashing, chair dances, traditional music and a DJ to mix things up. This crowd did not hold back! We had such a blast working with and celebrating this group! Na zisete!
